Crews extinguish crane truck fire along 101 Freeway in Ventura

Firefighters put out a large crane truck fire on the 101 Freeway in Ventura on Wednesday morning.

The Ventura County Fire Department Communication Center received multiple calls regarding a fully engulfed truck on the southbound span of the 101 near the Lemon Grove Crossing exit around 7:35 a.m., according to a media release from the department.

“Ventura Fire Department units arrived on scene within four minutes and found a crane truck with heavy fire to the engine compartment area,” the media release reads. “The driver was able to get out of the vehicle uninjured and it was determined there were no other people in the crane.”

While the flames were being extinguished, authorities had to shut down the southbound span for “a brief period of time” so that firefighters could safely do their jobs. Multiple fire engines were dispatched so that enough water was available to suppress the fire.
