UCSB Student Recovering From Critical Injuries after Surviving Dangerous Cliff Fall Near Isla Vista

On June 13, 2025, a 2nd-year USCB biology major, Luke Ogburn, fell from the Isla Vista bluffs. Ogburn suffered severe injuries and is currently under observation. This marks the first cliff fall of 2025. The last two cliff falls in the county were observed in 2024 and 2023, respectively. Ogburn is an employee at the IV Bagel Café in Isla Vista.

Ogburn Sustained Serious Injuries, Including Multiple Fractures and Deep Cuts

Ogburn managed to survive the fall; however, the medical care required is still severe, as per his employers at the IV Bagel Café. He sustained injuries such as a fractured pelvis and clavicle, two collapsed lungs, swelling under his skin, a broken rib, multiple facial and orbital fractures, and deep cuts across his body and head.
