A potentially dangerous situation unfolded at Righetti High School in Santa Barbara County on Monday when a School Resource Deputy confiscated a loaded handgun from a student. The incident began around 1:30 p.m. when school staff reported to a school deputy that a male student might be smoking marijuana in a bathroom. Upon confronting the student, the deputy faced resistance as the student attempted to walk away. A struggle ensued, during which the deputy sustained minor injuries, including a cut on his finger and an abrasion on his elbow.
During the arrest process, deputies discovered multiple marijuana vapes and a loaded .22 caliber revolver hidden in the student’s backpack.
