Inside the New Family-Friendly Pool Hall on Chapala Street

••• The Rack, the new billiards hall in the former Don Q space at 1128 Chapala (Figueroa/Anacapa) has opened, and it’s a fun addition to downtown, with nine tables rentable by the hour, tournaments, lessons, and leagues. (A beer license is in the works.) And it’s family-friendly. I grew up with a pool table in the house, and the game has obvious benefits regarding hand-eye coordination, patience, geometry, and more. While I’m no expert, every now and then I have managed to run the table—a feat sure to impress. Plus, any activity that stops kids, or any of us, from staring at a screen is a winner. P.S. The stools in the doorway are to deter the robot vacuum from making a run for it.

••• Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Brad Hall, and Jane Lynch will be at the Lobero Theatre on November 20 for a conversation moderated by producer Dante Di Loreto (“Glee,” “Fellow Travelers,” “American Horror Story”): “This talented group of Santa Barbara residents have collectively won 18 Emmys, 11 SAG awards, and 2 Golden Globes, in addition to numerous other nominations and accolades. They’ll share stories about their life in the arts, the unexpected twists in their careers, and the importance of creating community along the way.” Below: Lots of bad language and adult themes.
