Way Back When in 1925 – A Quake-Proof Home

The buildings in Santa Barbara destroyed by the earthquake in June 1925 made headlines all over the world, but plenty of homes and buildings survived with little or no damage. One was a home that had just been completed the day before the quake!

The home at 416 E. Padre is an attractive Spanish-style home made of stone, that looks almost the same a century later as it did in the ad in the local paper this month. It was built by stone mason Antonio Da Ros, and featured in the local paper in November 1925. (Please do not disturb the residents of this home.)…
