The longest continuous Honky Tonk in California is still going strong in a Santa Ynez

Jimmy and Karen’s dream of owning Maverick Saloon began many years ago on a weekend getaway. “I looked at that bar and said, ‘Babe — I want to own this place someday,’” Jimmy recalls. For them, the goal wasn’t to reinvent Maverick, but to honor its legacy. “We emphasized from the start that we did not want to change the essence of what Maverick was — rather, to preserve its legacy while making improvements: an icon in the Santa Ynez Valley,” Jimmy says.

Maverick is more than just a bar; it’s a community institution. The saloon’s walls are covered in dollar bills, each representing the memories and milestones of patrons over the decades. Its stage has hosted an impressive roster of country music talent, from emerging artists to superstars like Taylor Swift and Dierks Bentley. “The Maverick is truly one of the last remaining honky-tonks, and I am thrilled to be a part of it,” Jimmy notes. “I plan on operating with authenticity and honoring its legacy and country roots for years to come.” The venue blends nostalgia and excitement, drawing longtime locals and first-time visitors who instantly feel the magic of its music, dancing, and lively energy.
