County puts $18K toward restoration of storm-damaged Gibraltar Trail

The trail to a popular mid-county swimming hole received some love from Santa Barbara County Tuesday when supervisors unanimously approved more than $18,000 for its restoration.

The $18,181 grant to restore Gibraltar Trail/4N18.4 Red Rock in the Santa Ynez Recreation of the Los Padres National Forest will improve and protect riparian wildlife along 3 miles of the Santa Ynez River between Red Rock Day Use Area and Gibraltar Dam.

Work will restore the official trail, relieving pressure on the waterway and improving fish and wildlife habitat by mitigating human disruption in the Santa Ynez River. It will also decrease erosion and sedimentation of the river caused by the current trail…
