Peggy Maryanski taught in the Ventura Unified School District for 20 years, mostly as a kindergarten teacher, and worked at a variety of schools across Ventura. Her adult daughter also attended VUSD schools where Maryanski was involved in school site councils and parent-teacher organizations. But Maryanski didn’t grow up in Ventura herself; she’s from San Jose, where the elementary school she attended no longer exists.
“It’s gone. It’s now townhouses,” the retired educator told the Ventura County Reporter at the first meeting of the VUSD School Closure Advisory Committee, where she was elected chairperson by the panel.
