The Most Anticipated Santa Barbara Restaurant Openings for 2026

In 2022, I started trekking up to Santa Barbara more frequently. This part of the Central Coast wasn’t unfamiliar to me but suddenly I felt compelled to immerse myself in the culture of the 88,000-person city cradled by mountains, farms, wineries, a breathtaking coastline, and, of course, restaurants. During a recent visit, a bike ride around the harbor preceded a stop at Third Window Brewing for a stellar burger, reminding me of why Santa Barbara remains Southern California’s best getaway.

While plenty of longstanding restaurants remain busy (the Lark, the nearly 100-year-old Joe’s Cafe, and La Paloma Café dating back to 1940), newer spots have brought additional luster to the already vibrant scene, including State Street’s Aegean, Dom’s Taverna, and chef Diego Moya’s stunner Little Mountain, which Michelin recently added to its California Guide. A more salient question to ask: why do so many best restaurant or chef nominations and the California Michelin Guide mostly elude this part of the state, when Santa Barbara County has unbridled access to the best catches of the day and some of California’s most distinguished farms?

Even without the recognition it deserves, new and deeply exciting restaurants continue to open in and around Santa Barbara. Here, find a round-up of the Santa Barbara region’s newest restaurants and what’s still to come in 2026…
