Beats by the Beach: Grateful Dead and other tribute bands rock Crowne Plaza this summer

The Aqua Beachfront Bar is perfectly situated on Ventura’s Promenade for summertime enjoyment of the sunset, surfers and live music. The palm-tree studded venue feels magical on balmy summer evenings, as the notes mingle with salty ocean air. More live music is planned this summer than ever before on the ocean-view stage located at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach hotel.

A free outdoor summer concert series is planned every Saturday night, with a lineup including Mojo Risin’, a Doors tribute band, on June 6, Dave Matthews tribute band Dead Marley Matthews on June 13, David Bowie tribute Electric Duke on June 27 and The Great Divide, a tribute to Phish, on July 11. The shows are staged by Dandy Productions, run by partners Dan Stein and Andy Kahn.

Stein told the Ventura County Reporter that his dad was a fan of classic rock bands like Pink Floyd and the Allman Brothers and encouraged him to start playing music when he was 7 years old. The Thousand Oaks resident formed a band, Shambala, which plays mostly original songs. He now devotes much of his musical energy to a Grateful Dead cover band called The People’s Dead with fiancé Liv Zutphen, a guitarist trained at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood…
