Sonoma Co.: Extensive Improvements Coming To Guerneville Wastewater System

After 5 million gallons of wastewater were discharged into the Russian River during stormy weather in January, Sonoma County water agencies are being required by a regional water board to improve their management of a sewage network that treats wastewater from Guerneville and surrounding unincorporated communities.

The improvements are being required under an enforcement settlement that the Russian River County Sanitation District and Sonoma Water — the agencies that own and operate the Guerneville wastewater system — signed Monday with the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, a regional government agency within California’s State Water Resources Control Board.
