Coast Guard responds to grounded vessel in Point Reyes

Response crews have pulled the grounded fishing vessel Lake Bay out of the active surf zone at North Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore following the removal of fuel and oil from the vessel.

The Lake Bay ran aground early August 21. The Coast Guard launched a search-and-rescue response and transported four crew members to Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay with no reported injuries. After the crew and captain were safely ashore, a unified command was established to address potential pollution from the vessel.

Crews removed approximately 1,400 gallons of diesel fuel and 175 gallons of hydraulic and lubricating oil from the Lake Bay on August 25. The petroleum products were transferred to containers for disposal…
