David Lee Hoffman stood on his property in the West Marin County town of Lagunitas where he’s lived for 53 years, surrounded by the exotic temples and caves he’s constructed over the decades — getting ready to say goodbye to it all.
After a long court battle over his unpermitted building, a Marin County Superior Court ordered Hoffman to vacate the property by this Tuesday with a court-appointed receiver set to take it over and sell it.
On Monday — his last legal day on the property — Hoffman, a tea importer, watched as a group of friends turned out to help him pack hundreds of pounds of teas along with any other belongings.
