Pick Your Own Steak for Lunch at Journeyman Meat Co. in Healdsburg

In Healdsburg, $30 will get you one and a half fancy cocktails, a couple of burritos or one of the best steak lunches you’ve ever had. You just have to know where to go.

For the steak, go to Journeyman Meat Co., a butcher shop speakeasy owned by Pete and Cathy Seghesio. Yes, those Seghesios: the family behind Seghesio Family Vineyards, one of Sonoma County’s oldest wineries.

From the sidewalk, Journeyman looks like a meat market. Long refrigerated cases hold sausages and brown-paper-wrapped cuts. There’s a busy meat counter, a very expensive Italian meat slicer and, most days, plenty of locals.

Journeyman is Pete Seghesio’s longtime passion project, where he carries on a family tradition of making fresh sausages and premium salumi while selling some seriously high-end beef: perfectly marbled Wagyu and Angus cattle raised by his son, Will, for the company’s estate program…
