A tragic collision occurred on Thursday, February 1, 2024, around 12:37 pm, involving two vehicles on Lakeville Highway at Pine View Way. Petaluma Police Department officers and Petaluma Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene following an emergency dispatch.
Upon arrival, responders found a small SUV off the north side of the westbound lanes of Lakeville Highway with an unresponsive female inside. The SUV had sustained major damage on the driver’s side. In the eastbound lanes, a sedan displayed significant front-end damage.
Paramedics pronounced the seventy-nine-year-old female SUV driver deceased at the scene. The twenty-two-year-old male sedan driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The ongoing investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the collision. The driver of the sedan is cooperating, and there is no current indication of drugs or alcohol involvement.
To respect the privacy of the deceased, her identity is withheld pending notification of her family by the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office.
