Drunk trespasser, 16, tries stabbing California high school student walking to campus, police say

On the morning of February 5, 2024, the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to a concerning incident at Montgomery High School, where a 16-year-old male, visibly intoxicated, brandished a knife and made threats towards a high school student.

At approximately 7:55 am, SRPD officers were dispatched to Montgomery High School, located at 1250 Hahman Drive, after school staff reported an unknown male trespassing on the campus. The suspect, donning a ski mask and checking door handles, began approaching students as they arrived for school, asking for their social media information. However, the suspect left the campus before police could locate him, police said.

Around 8:40 am, school staff reported the suspect’s return to campus. After being escorted off campus by staff, it was discovered that the suspect may have been in possession of a knife. Staff continually updated SRPD Dispatch with the suspect’s location as he moved off campus, police added.

One of the responding officers located the juvenile suspect near a grocery store in the 900 block of Village Court. The suspect attempted to evade arrest by running, but the officer successfully detained him after a short foot pursuit. During the apprehension, a half-empty bottle of alcohol fell from the suspect’s possession, prompting the officer to detect signs of alcohol intoxication, police said.
