St. Helena is responding to a recent storm that caused disruption and damage. PG&E has compared the storm’s impact to those in 2008 and 1995. As of 2 p.m. today, PG&E is addressing 873 outages affecting over 56,000 customers in Napa, Sonoma, and Marin Counties. More than 3,000 employees are working on damage assessment, repairs, and emergency support.
Since the storm started on Wednesday, January 31, the city’s Public Works, Fire, and Police Departments have been checking infrastructure and roads, responding to calls, and clearing trees. Emergency pumping operations were started at Vineyard Valley on Wednesday evening. However, the system was overwhelmed early Sunday morning due to storm water infiltration and ground saturation.
The storm damaged the Boys and Girls Clubhouse and Teen Center, which are now closed for assessment. This closure affects students from grades 3 through 12. The location at the Primary School for kindergarten through grade 2, and the Clubhouse and Teen Center in Calistoga, remain open.
