David Charles Moon, a 43-year-old Petaluma resident, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes including domestic abuse, burglary, and witness intimidation. Judge Robert LaForge delivered the sentence, with District Attorney Carla Rodriguez highlighting Moon’s history of criminal behavior and evasion of accountability. Moon’s series of crimes started in November 2022 when he assaulted a former girlfriend and sent her threatening messages.

In April 2023, Moon increased his intimidation by damaging the victim’s car and sending her threats through the encrypted messaging app, Telegram. He used the app’s disappearing message feature and multiple aliases to further intimidate the victim. Petaluma police eventually found Moon at his parent’s house, which led to a car chase through Petaluma. He was caught four days later in Marin by U.S. Marshal Agents.

Upon his arrest, Moon was found with a loaded gun and methamphetamine. While in jail at Sonoma County, it was discovered that Moon planned to get rid of a large amount of firearms and drugs stored in a unit in Contra Costa. A search of the unit found unregistered firearms, multiple firearm silencers, a large amount of ammunition, an assault rifle, and over ten ounces of cocaine.
