Controversial Sonoma County Deputy Gets Arrested for DUI After Motorcycle Crash

A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy involved in a controversial 2022 fatal shooting has been cited for DUI after crashing his motorcycle in Santa Rosa. Deputy Anthony Powers was issued an arrest citation on August 28th, but was not booked into jail due to medical treatment. The crash occurred in the 2300 block of Bluebell Drive, and Powers was allegedly intoxicated at the time. The deputy’s involvement in the 2022 fatal shooting of farmworker David Peláez-Chavez has sparked controversy and ongoing investigations. The Peláez-Chavez family has filed a federal civil suit against Sonoma County, and the Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review (IOLERO) is still investigating the incident.
