( KRON ) — A fight in Petaluma that led to a stabbing on Monday night resulted in one man being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and another being arrested on assault charges, the Petaluma Police Department said Tuesday.
Police responded Monday to a report of two men fighting at around 9:53 p.m. on Hopper Street. It was learned that the suspect, Javier Ortega, 48, of Petaluma, allegedly stabbed a victim multiple times before officers arrived, Petaluma PD said.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Ortega had discarded the knife, which was later located at the front of Mary Issak Center, located at 900 Hopper Street.
The stabbing victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery, police said. As of Tuesday morning, the victim was reported to be in stable condition.
Ortega was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and outstanding warrants, Petaluma police said.
