Suspect with loaded firearm resisted arrest, found hiding in dumpster: Novato police

NOVATO, Calif. (KRON) — Novato Police Department said things took quite a turn when a detective tried to stop a man for committing an unsafe pedestrian violation.

The incident happened 8:49 p.m. Thursday when the Novato police detective, who was assisting with patrol duty, approached the man to investigate the situation further.

Police said during the interaction, the detective felt a firearm in the man’s backpack at which then the suspect tried to “forcibly remove the backpack” from the detective.

Police said after a brief foot chase, Tariq Wade, 23, was discovered hiding in a nearby dumpster. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.

NPD said Wade was arrested without incident and faces several charges, including being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of cannabis for sale and resisting an officer.
