Temporary roundabout coming to California wine country intersection that’s always congested

Sonoma County drivers, get ready for smoother and safer travels! Starting Tuesday, November 12, a temporary roundabout will replace the current four-way stop at the SR-116/121 intersection, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety. The new roundabout is part of a major project expected to be completed by 2025.

While the roundabout won’t have all permanent features yet, such as additional lanes or bike lanes, it will keep traffic moving efficiently. Lane closures for prep work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, and Monday, Nov. 11, but at least one lane will remain open in each direction.

Good news: the bypass lane connecting northbound Route 121 to eastbound Route 121 will reopen, helping alleviate congestion. However, it will temporarily close again in Spring 2025 for sidewalk and pedestrian upgrades.
