Two people have been arrested on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter in the death of a 22-year-old man following an opioid overdose in Marin County, authorities said.
Corte Madera residents Raul Beltran, 25, and Olivia Peters, 22, were also arrested on suspicion of furnishing a controlled substance resulting in great bodily injury of a victim, authorities said. The two were arrested Saturday and booked into Marin County jail, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. Their bail was set at $100,000 each.
Beltran and Peters were implicated in the crime because they provided drugs to the victim, according to authorities.
At about 9:08 a.m. Saturday, the Central Marin Police Authority received a report of an unconscious man inside a car on Sunnyvale Avenue in Corte Madera, authorities said. Officers responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.
An investigator with the Marin County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and determined the death was the result of a suspected opioid overdose, authorities said. Detectives with Marin County Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Unit, who are trained to investigate potential overdose homicides, investigated the incident, leading them to identify Beltran and Peters as suspects.
