Sonoma County airport’s pavement rehabilitation, expansion work moves forward with new project

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has green-lit a new pavement project at the county airport and tapped federal and state funds to cover about a quarter of the roughly $20 million overall cost.

The project is designed to repave and expand a stretch of pavement off the main runway, called an “apron,” that is primarily used to park, load, unload, refuel, board and maintain commercial aircraft, according to a county staff report.

Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved the use of $5.7 million for the project and authorized the county’s public infrastructure department to execute a contract with Watsonville-based Granite Construction for a guaranteed maximum price of $3,993,297…
