Marin County elder scam suspect arrested

( KRON ) — A San Francisco man has been arrested in connection to recent financial scams targeting elderly adults, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday. The suspect, 43-year-old Zhuowen Yu, has been connected to at least two incidents, one in San Rafael, and another in Point Reyes Station.

Both incidents, according to law enforcement, share a similar method of operation. Victims in both cases received electronic notice that their Apple ID or Adobe Acrobat accounts were “compromised.”

The suspect then told victims to withdraw cash from their bank accounts and that a courier would collect the money to “protect” the funds from further compromise. Yu is suspected of defrauding at least $64,000 from victims in Marin County.

Using automated license plate reader ALPR cameras across the county, authorities were able to identify Yu’s vehicle. The Marin County Sheriff’s investigative division worked with other local agencies to locate the vehicle…
