The storied Old Western Saloon in Point Reyes Station sells to local nonprofit

A nonprofit founded by a Bay Area tech mogul has purchased the building that houses a Marin County dive bar with a storied past .

The building at 11201 Highway 1 in Point Reyes Station had been on the market for four years with an initial asking price of $2.2 million, according to the Point Reyes Light . It was rebuilt after collapsing in the 1906 earthquake, and houses the Old Western Saloon along with a record store and offices on the second floor.

The Old Western has been a treasured watering hole and piece of local history for over a century, its roots hearkening back to Point Reyes Station’s rugged ranching days. It’s believed to have been a brothel at one point, as evidenced by its various hidden stairwells and passages. Its famous clientele include then-Prince Charles and Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall, who stopped by on a tour of the United States in 2005…
