At 12:38 PM, the City of Santa Rosa Fire Department reported a fire at a duplex on Ridley Avenue. The firefighters quickly arrived in less than five minutes to battle the blaze that had taken hold in the garage and was quickly spreading to the attic. The team acted swiftly to call for additional resources to aid firefighting efforts, as per the City of Santa Rosa Fire Department.
The intervention of the firefighters was effective in holding the fire to the garage area, saving the living quarters of the duplex from destruction. The fire was controlled within twenty minutes, though not before inflicting approximately $200,000 in damages, primarily to the garage and roof. While the residents’ belongings in the main living areas were rescued, utility services were compromised, prompting assistance from PG&E and the American Red Cross for the displaced.
Amid the firefight, one firefighter sustained a lower extremity injury but chose to continue to operate actively, despite pain, a hose line, contributing significantly to the quelling of the flames before requiring medical attention.
