Elderly man dies after vehicle goes into the water near Sears Point

( KRON ) — An elderly man died Thursday morning when his vehicle went off the roadway on Highway 37 in Marin County and wound up in the water. The solo vehicle crash occurred near Sears Point, just east of Highway 121, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP log indicates the vehicle went into the water around 10:35 a.m. About 15 minutes later, by 10:52 a.m., it was almost completely submerged. A tow request for a 100-foot cable was submitted and then canceled.

A fire department swimmer went into the water and was able to reach the vehicle. First responders, however, were unable to save the driver, who died at the scene.
