The Occidental Center for the Arts will host its third annual World Music & Dance Festival Saturday, June 7, at 3850 Doris Murphy Court in Occidental. Inspired by the popular Lark Music Camp held annually in the Mendocino Woodlands, this year’s festival runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with gates opening at 9 a.m.
A global musical and dance experience
The festival offers an extensive schedule featuring more than 40 performances, workshops, jam sessions and demonstrations. Participants will have opportunities to explore music and dance traditions from around the world, including North and South America, Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Additionally, vocal classes, folk dancing sessions and stage performance workshops are available for attendees of all skill levels.
New additions for 2025
New this year is a dedicated performance track, providing continuous entertainment throughout the day. Attendees can also experiment with various global acoustic instruments thanks to an on-site musical instrument lending library.
The festival emphasizes accessibility and community engagement, welcoming guests of all ages and experience levels. Children’s activities have been expanded, and kids under 12 can attend for free when accompanied by a participating adult.
Logistics and ticketing
Conveniences such as complimentary instrument storage and free parking will be provided. International food options will be available for purchase. Festival organizers recommend bringing seat cushions or low-backed chairs for comfortable viewing in the outdoor amphitheater.
Scholarships and early registration discounts are available. Tickets purchased by May 31 cost $85, rising to $95 at the gate. Teens ages 13-17 receive half-price admission, and Occidental Center for the Arts members also receive discounts…
