JENNER, Calif. — A young, cinnamon-colored black bear was spotted twice this week near the Sonoma Coast, drawing attention on social media after being photographed along a foggy stretch of Highway 1 near Goat Rock on Thursday, according to Jenner Headlands Preserve officials.
According to Jenner Headlands Preserve staff, the same bear had been seen the night before during a spotted owl survey within the Preserve. Wildlife experts note that young bears are often sent off by their mothers around 18 months old in late spring as they begin to forage and seek out their own territory.
A similar sighting of a black-furred bear occurred in the same area last month, possibly a sibling. (Source: Jenner Headlands Preserve)
