Black bear sighted on popular trail and island along Sonoma Coast

As summer approaches and more Bay Area residents head out to trails and campsites along the Sonoma coast, state wildlife experts are urging people to be particularly vigilant for bears.

Just last week, a black bear was seen walking south on the Kortum Trail in Sonoma Coast State Park, where such sightings are incredibly rare .

Campers were notified and the trail was temporarily closed as state wildlife officials tried “hazing” the bear with loud noises to try to scare it back into the wilderness Thursday, according to Loren Rex, chief ranger with the California Department of Parks and Recreation…
