This Feminine-Forward Wine Tasting Space in California Exudes Warmth and Intimacy

Miller House is the newest addition to Frank Family Vineyards, a sophisticated vineyard in Calistoga, California. Miller House, named after owner Leslie Frank’s maiden name, is an inviting, sophisticated tasting space conceived by architecture studio Backen & Backen and interior design firm Hawkins Interiors.

The project is a personal one: In addition to being the site where owners Leslie and Rich got married, the brief also called for a space that would reflect the passions of Leslie, who after two decades in journalism joined her husband in the winery business.

Tasked with transforming the large, high-ceilinged room into an intimate venue capable of hosting up to 40 guests without resembling a sterile, impersonal dining hall, Hawkins Interiors placed varied furniture groupings throughout the space, creating distinctive areas that harmoniously work together as a whole. Bold, sculptural pieces were added to foster a lively artistic atmosphere, while oversized black chandeliers visually connected the lofty ceilings to the floor, grounding the space at a more human scale…
