After string of closures, Sonoma County’s Superburger is getting back to basics

The closure of Superburger’s Petaluma location on June 1 — the third shuttering this year for the local chain — has left longtime fans wondering about the future of its remaining outposts on Old Redwood Highway in Cotati and Fourth Street in Santa Rosa.

In an interview Monday, owner Bill Cordell said the Petaluma restaurant, located in the Plaza North Shopping Center, had underperformed, due in part to the cancellation of a planned Home Depot in the shopping center and the departure of several other neighboring businesses.

Now, a new chapter begins for that space. The Local, a farm-to-table sandwich shop, has taken over the lease and purchased the kitchen equipment, according to its owner Chris Osborne.
