Saturday nightshift in Novato: Hotel guest misbehaves, bedroom fire and a hit-and-run

Saturday Nightshift Highlights (5/31)

Just before 8PM, officers responded to the Marriott Hotel on a report of a disturbance on the second floor. The suspect left the hotel upon the officer’s arrival. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Melissa Smith, a 49-year-old Healdsburg resident, and learned she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She was located at a nearby fast-food restaurant where she was arrested and later booked into the Marin County Jail.

About two hours later, Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Midway Blvd for a structure fire. Officers arrived and were informed of a fire in a bedroom near the front of the residence. They entered the house and used fire extinguishers to prevent the small fire from spreading further. Novato Fire responded to fully extinguish the fire.

While officers were at the scene of the structure fire, they were alerted to a vehicle collision on Sunset Pkwy. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicles involved near Lynwood school. Upon investigating further, they learned a hit-and-run collision occurred near the intersection of Ignacio Blvd and Fairway Dr. The victims followed the suspect vehicle and called NPD for assistance. The driver of the suspect vehicle was found to be a 17-year-old male juvenile and driving under the influence (over three times the legal limit for an adult). He was arrested and later booked into Juvenile Hall for DUI and additional charges after receiving medical clearance…
