Helicopter airlifts injured hiker from isolated trail during Fourth of July weekend

A helicopter crew airlifted an injured hiker near Alpine Lake in Marin County over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s office.

In the afternoon of July 4, the agency’s Henry 1 helicopter was requested by Marin County Emergency Communications Center to assist with an emergency rescue along the Helen Markt Trail, an isolated and difficult-to-access hiking route that runs through steep wilderness above the lake.

Ross Valley Fire Department paramedics reached the injured hiker using a boat and navigated the “rugged terrain” to provide emergency medical care…
