Wheelchair-bound racer pushed over by Sonoma NASCAR guard and files charges

Former driver and wheelchair-bound Chase Johnson was the victim of an alleged assault and battery by a Sonoma Raceway security guard as he attempted to get his car from the handicapped parking lot during Sunday’s 2025 Toyota/Save Mart 350, won by Shane van Gisbergen.

Johnson used to compete in Kyle Larson’s High Limit Racing series and has competed in more than 300 racing events before suffering a debilitating injury in last year’s Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Johnson and his wife, Hayley, were heading to the parking lot at one of the nation’s most beautiful racetracks when a security guard stopped them and asked the pair to show their credentials.
