Sonoma County commits $6 million to mobile mental health crisis teams

When someone in Sonoma County faces a mental health crisis, trained counselors — not just police officers — now respond to help. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has committed nearly $6 million from voter-approved Measure O to keep mobile crisis response teams operating in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Cotati, Rohnert Park, and at Sonoma State University through at least June 2026.

The board’s decision allocates $5.98 million, representing a substantial 61% boost from the previous year and demonstrating the county’s growing commitment to compassionate mental health care and community safety.

“We heard from our city partners how vital these services are and what they need to sustain them,” says Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. “Fortunately, we met their financial requests to keep their programs going this year, and we’ll work with them on strategies for maintaining funding over subsequent years.”…
