Summer Roadwork Alert: Marin County to Kick Off Pavement Preservation on 25 Miles of Roads Starting Tomorrow

Drivers in Marin County might want to plan some detours this summer as the Department of Public Works (DPW) kicks off pavement preservation on 25 miles of county-maintained roads, which make up about 6% of the 421-mile network. Starting tomorrow, the five-month project will work towards increasing the lifespan of these roads, hoping to avoid more disruptive and costly overhauls down the road.

According to the DPW’s maintenance blueprint published on Marin County’s official website, the maintenance work is set to be staggered across various unincorporated areas, including Dillon Beach, Fairfax, and Kentfield, among others. Initially, the roads in unincorporated Mill Valley and Sleepy Hollow will be treated between tomorrow and early August, subjected to single-lane access controlled by temporary traffic lights with up to 5-minute hold times. Similar treatment is scheduled for multiple other locations through the summer and fall, with exact road names and dates to be announced as the project progresses.

Meanwhile, residents near the Black Point community should brace for additional inconvenience. In alliance with the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District, the county is gearing up to enhance the railroad crossing on Grandview Avenue near Harbor Drive. This construction will be split into several stages from August 5 through August 8, shaking up the usual traffic patterns with delays varying from 5 to 10 minutes. But come nightfall on August 6, the thoroughfare will shut completely until the morning of August 7 to facilitate uninterrupted night work, excluding a brief 15-minute window at 4 AM for public through access. The County staff recognizes the hassle for those, especially during night hours, and suggests contacting Marin County DPW with any pressing concerns…
