Wasps on the rise in Marin County, park visitors warned

An unusually high population of wasps is affecting parts of Marin County, California State Park officials announced in a notice to visitors of Samuel P. Taylor State Park.

Park staff are marking nesting sites and coordinating with pest control to reduce the chance of encounters between visitors and wasps, officials said on social media Saturday. Staff are also relocating some reservations, particularly in areas near identified nesting sites.

This rise in wasp activity is caused by a “combination of mild weather conditions and increased access to water and food sources,” which have led to a higher-than-normal yellow jacket population, officials said…
