Westside Road Reopens in Sonoma County Following Storm Damage Repairs, Marking Progress in Local Infrastructure Recovery

Good news for Sonoma County residents, as a major step in storm recovery efforts comes to fruition later this month. According to an announcement made by Sonoma County, Westside Road in Forestville is slated to reopen next Thursday, signaling near completion of the first out of six crucial road repair projects. The county had been reeling from the significant damage caused by the relentless torrents brought on by an atmospheric river last winter, which notably led to two fatalities. The reopening comes with a scheduled ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon, organized by Sonoma County Public Infrastructure, as a symbol of progress in reconstructing and fortifying the affected areas.

The importance of these infrastructure projects cannot be overstated, with the local community heavily impacted by road closures and the resultant isolation. Sonoma County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins expressed the urgency of these initiatives, “Our goal has been to move these essential projects into construction as quickly as possible to restore access and ensure safety following last winter’s severe storms,” in a statement obtained by Sonoma County’s official website. The county authorities gave the green light for all six priority projects on April 15, with Westside Road being the first one to approach completion.

Other identified repair sites in Sonoma County include Wohler Road, West Soda Rock Lane, two sections of Cavedale Road, and Giovannetti Road, each with unique damage and required repairs.
