Two North Carolina Tar Heel alums took away second place honors this weekend on their respective professional golf tours, but their feelings heading away from the course may feel quite differently.
Ben Griffin was five feet nine inches away on the final hole on Sunday from pushing Scottie Scheffler into a sudden death playoff at the Procore Championship in Napa, California. However, he left a right to left breaking putt just outside the lower lip for a disappointing second place finish when one considers he was that close from having the chance to take down the world’s top-ranked player.
Griffin, who graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2018, held the 54-hole lead going into Sunday’s final round. He started out on fire with birdies on the first three holes. A bogey at the fourth hole moved him back to 18-under par which is where he would end up…
