Teen assaults Petaluma officer during DUI hit-and-run stop: police

(KRON) — A 19-year-old DUI driving suspect who allegedly fled a hit-and-run collision in Petaluma on Wednesday became violent with officers after being pulled over, according to police.

Petaluma Police Department officers responding to the hit-and-run crash at 11:20 p.m. located the suspect vehicle veering southbound on Highway 101 in excess of 100 miles per hour, authorities said. The driver, identified as Alicia Wright, 19, pulled over to the freeway shoulder once officers initiated a traffic stop.

Officers “observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication” as they talked to Wright and began a DUI investigation, Petaluma PD said. At that time, Wright allegedly pushed an officer and “violently” resisted arrest.

“Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect continued to violently resist for several minutes before officers were able to safely detain her,” the police department said.

Wright was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the officer altercation. After being discharged, she was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run causing injury, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest…
