After years of negotiating and planning, organizers behind popular Bay Area farmers markets have secured a 40-year lease to operate on a permanent site in San Rafael.
On Tuesday, the Agricultural Institute of Marin, a nonprofit organization that operates certified farmers markets around the Bay Area, got approval from the Marin County Board of Supervisors to operate a permanent market at the Marin County Civic Center. The forthcoming project is slated to be named the Marin Farmers Market at the Center for Food and Agriculture, with an opening set for 2027.
“Often with farmers markets, you’re operating on parking lots,” AIM CEO Andy Naja-Riese told SFGATE. “Now that we have a long-term lease, it allows us to do all the things that give the farmers market the dignity it deserves.”…
