Flames surged through Sonoma County’s acclaimed Chinese restaurant Bazaar Sonoma Monday morning, burning a hole through a wall to the outside and devastating the dining room of the restaurant just days away from its one-year anniversary.
The night before, BaSo co-owner Sean Quan said Tuesday, he and restaurant staffers had celebrated the San Francisco’s Chronicle glowing review published last week and talked about ways to further improve the restaurant, including new, budget-friendly menu options. Quan said he had gotten three hours of sleep before his landlord called with news of the fire.
“The smell of the melted plastic and wood, I’m going to remember that smell forever,” Quan said. “I thought I hadn’t woken up yet, and that this was just all like a dream. Walking through the rubble, it felt like a movie set.”…
