A mystery buyer has continued adding to their collection of Napa Valley vineyards, paying $16.8 million for a notable winery in the Carneros district. It’s the second Wine Country property for the buyer, who quietly purchased another Napa vineyard last year. “Our goal is to be the No. 1 wine and vineyard owner in the Napa and Sonoma area,” said the buyer’s broker, Tony Chan.
The Peju family sold its 100-acre Calmére Estate Winery to the unknown buyer in a transaction that closed Oct. 8. The Pejus continue to operate Peju Winery in Napa Valley’s Rutherford, which they started in 1983.
Last year, the same buyer acquired a 307-acre vineyard in Carneros known as the Alta Vista Ranch for $24 million, Chan said. Both transactions were paid in cash, he added. He would not identify the owner or owners by name, identifying them only as an “overseas Chinese buyer” who is in the “manufacturing business.”…
