Santa Rosa Man Receives Life Sentence for Rape and Assault

A Santa Rosa man has been sentenced to life in prison following a jury’s April verdict that found him guilty on charges of rape, false imprisonment, and assault. Devin Patrick Dwyer, 35, will serve nine years and four months plus a consecutive 30 years-to-life sentence in state prison, as ruled by Judge Kenneth Gnoss on October 2nd, per the official statement from the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.

During a publicized and trying court process, the jury heard how, on a chill weekend in March of 2023, after an evening spent at the Whiskey Tip bar in Santa Rosa, the victim, having met Dwyer through a mutual acquaintance, endured hours of violent captivity in the assailant’s residence. The conviction hinged largely upon the harrowing testimony of the abuse suffered, where the woman was bound, assaulted, and raped before managing to escape to seek assistance from the neighboring home.

“Mr. Dwyer committed unspeakable acts against the victim and has more than earned this prison sentence.
