Napa County Residents Invited to Safely Dispose of Medications and Sharps at Local Take Back Event on October 25

Napa County will take part in National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event offers residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unused or expired medications and used medical sharps. It will run from 10 AM to 2 PM at six locations. These include police departments in Napa, St. Helena, Calistoga, Yountville, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, and Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices.

The event aims to prevent improper disposal of pharmaceuticals and sharps. According to the Napa Sanitation District, flushing medications or pouring them down the drain can affect water quality and aquatic life. Take-back events and year-round drop-off sites help ensure safe disposal.

The October 25 event will accept prescription and over-the-counter medications, controlled substances, and illegal narcotics. Medical sharps, such as syringes and epinephrine auto-injectors, will also be collected. State law does not allow sharps in regular trash or recycling.
