Marin County search team rescues hiker missing on Halloween night

An afternoon hike in Marin County took a frightening turn on Halloween night when a man became lost with a dead phone battery, prompting an hourslong search-and-rescue mission on a dark mountainside, according to officials.

A woman reported that her husband went out for a hike around 2:30 p.m. Friday near Mount Tamalpais and texted her three hours later from Bon Tempe Dam that he had “made a wrong turn, but knew where he was,” according to Marin County Search and Rescue.

The husband told his wife that his phone battery was “very low” and that he expected to make it back to the trailhead in roughly 90 minutes, according to county officials…
