(KRON) — A passenger inside an SUV was killed Thursday night near Cotati when the driver veered off the roadway and struck a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities alleged that the driver was drunk at the time of the fatal crash.
CHP responded at 11:25 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash on Stony Point Road, south of West Seirra Avenue. Arriving officers found a Chevrolet Tahoe with two occupants that had collided with a tree.
The passenger, whom CHP only identified as a male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, a woman, suffered major non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.
“During the investigation, officers determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol,” CHP wrote. Authorities did not release the woman’s name.
