SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A group of students from Windsor Middle School found a loaded handgun while on a field trip to Foothill Regional Park in Sonoma County Friday.
A student briefly picked up the gun before telling their teacher, who immediately called 911, according to the Windsor Police Department. The teacher kept the students safe until police arrived and collected the gun.
“The students were learning outdoor survival skills,” Windsor PD said. “The skills included learning how to build outdoor survival shelters. While canvassing the area for building material one of the students located a firearm which appeared to be concealed under a small log and branches.”
